COMPARISON
FixGDPR vs Cookiebot
Cookiebot is one of the most established consent management platforms on the market. It has been around since 2012 and powers cookie consent for millions of websites. But is it still the right choice in 2026? We built FixGDPR to take a different approach to GDPR compliance — one that goes beyond consent banners. This is an honest, side-by-side comparison of both platforms so you can decide which one fits your needs.
Pricing
Pricing comparison
Cookiebot pricing is based on the number of subpages per domain. FixGDPR pricing is based on your account, regardless of how many pages your site has. Here is how the two compare.
| Tier | Cookiebot | FixGDPR |
|---|---|---|
| Free | Free Limited to 50 subpages on a single domain. Includes the consent banner and basic cookie scanning. No compliance scoring, no privacy policy tools. Suitable only for very small, static websites. Cookiebot branding displayed on banner. | Free 1 website, summary compliance audit, basic monitoring with up to 5,000 pageviews per month. No credit card required. FixGDPR branding on banner. |
| Entry | Premium Small — from €15/mo Up to 500 subpages, one domain. After the August 2025 price increase, the entry-level paid tier doubled from €7 to approximately €15 per month for sites with under 500 subpages. Additional domains require separate subscriptions. Previously €7/mo before August 2025. | Starter — $4.99/mo 1 website, full audit report, weekly re-scans, privacy policy generator, cookie consent banner with auto-blocking. Flat rate regardless of page count. No per-page surcharges. |
| Mid-tier | Premium Medium — €30–€45/mo 500–5,000 subpages per domain. Pricing scales with subpage count. If your site grows past a tier boundary, you are automatically upgraded to the next pricing level. Multi-site setups require purchasing a subscription for each domain separately. Per-domain pricing. Auto-upgrade on tier overflow. | Pro — $14.99/mo Unlimited sites, daily re-scans, full audit report, dark pattern detection, privacy policy generator, Google Consent Mode v2, custom branding. One price for your entire account. Unlimited sites, unlimited pages. |
| Enterprise / Agency | Premium Large — €60–€90+/mo 5,000+ subpages per domain. Pricing continues to scale. Enterprise customers with many domains or large page counts may need custom quotes. White-label options are available at higher tiers. Costs multiply across domains. | Agency — $39.99/mo Up to 15 websites, unlimited pageviews, white-label reports, priority support, everything in Pro plus agency-specific tools. One flat monthly fee. Manage up to 15 client sites under one account. |
The pricing difference becomes especially clear when you manage multiple domains. A Cookiebot customer running three medium-sized websites (each with around 2,000 subpages) could be paying €90 to €135 per month across three separate subscriptions. With FixGDPR Pro, the same customer would pay a flat $14.99 per month for unlimited sites. That is a significant cost difference, especially for freelancers, small agencies, and bootstrapped businesses looking for a Cookiebot alternative that does not penalize growth.
It is also worth noting that Cookiebot's per-subpage model means your costs can increase without warning. If you publish a batch of new blog posts or product pages that pushes you past a subpage threshold, your plan is automatically upgraded to the next tier. This makes Cookiebot pricing difficult to predict for sites with frequently changing content. FixGDPR charges per account, so your bill stays the same whether you have 50 pages or 50,000.
Features
Feature comparison
Both platforms cover the core consent management features. The differences emerge in compliance tooling, pricing structure, and the overall approach to GDPR readiness.
| Feature | FixGDPR | Cookiebot |
|---|---|---|
| Consent Banner | ✓ | ✓ |
| Cookie Auto-Blocking | ✓ | ✓ |
| Cookie Scanner | ✓ | ✓ |
| Privacy Policy Generator | ✓ | ✗ |
| Google Consent Mode v2 | ✓ | ✓ |
| WordPress Plugin | ✓ | ✓ |
| Multi-language | ✓ | ✓ |
| Compliance Score | ✓ | ✗ |
| Custom Branding | ✓ | ✓ |
On the surface, both tools tick most of the same boxes. Cookiebot has been refining its consent banner and cookie scanner for over a decade, and it does those things well. Where FixGDPR differs is in the compliance layer that sits on top of the consent management. FixGDPR does not just manage cookies — it scans your entire site for GDPR issues and gives you a compliance score from 0 to 100, along with actionable fix instructions tailored to your tech stack.
Cookiebot does not offer a privacy policy generator. If you need one, you will have to use a separate tool or draft it manually. FixGDPR includes a built-in privacy policy generator on the Starter plan and above, which creates a policy based on the cookies and trackers detected during your compliance scan. This means fewer tools to manage and a more cohesive compliance workflow.
Both platforms support multi-language consent banners. Cookiebot has an edge here with support for over 40 languages out of the box, while FixGDPR currently supports the most widely used European languages. For most small-to-mid-sized businesses operating in a handful of markets, this difference is unlikely to matter. For enterprises operating in 20+ countries, Cookiebot's broader language coverage may be a deciding factor.
Key differences
Pricing model
The most fundamental difference between FixGDPR and Cookiebot is how they charge you. Cookiebot uses a per-domain, per-subpage pricing model. Every domain you want to protect requires its own subscription, and the cost of that subscription depends on how many subpages the domain has. Subpages are counted automatically by Cookiebot's scanner, and if your count exceeds your current tier, you are moved to the next one without any manual intervention.
This model made sense in 2016, when most businesses had a single website with a relatively fixed page count. Today, it creates real pain. A marketing agency managing ten client websites, each with a few hundred pages, would need ten separate Cookiebot subscriptions. Even at the lowest paid tier, that adds up quickly. And if one of those sites publishes a large content update that pushes it past a tier boundary, the bill increases automatically.
FixGDPR takes a per-account approach. You pay one price based on the plan you choose, and that plan covers the number of sites included in your tier. The Pro plan, for example, covers unlimited sites for $14.99 per month. There are no subpage limits, no automatic upgrades, and no surprises on your invoice. For anyone managing more than one website, this alone can make FixGDPR the more cost-effective Cookiebot alternative.
The August 2025 price increase
In August 2025, Cookiebot restructured its pricing tiers in a way that significantly impacted small-site owners. The entry-level paid plan, which had previously been available for approximately €7 per month for sites with fewer than 500 subpages, roughly doubled to around €15 per month. For sites in the 500–2,000 subpage range, the increase was similar — from approximately €15 to €30 per month.
The change was controversial. Many small business owners and freelancers who had been using Cookiebot for years found their costs doubling overnight with little advance notice. Forum threads and social media posts from affected users expressed frustration, particularly because the feature set at those tiers did not change materially. The same consent banner and cookie scanner, just at a higher price.
This pricing shift is one of the reasons we have seen increased interest in Cookiebot alternatives. For budget-conscious site owners, predictability matters. FixGDPR's Starter plan has been $4.99 per month since launch, and we have no plans to change that. We believe compliance tools should become more affordable over time, not less.
Setup and ease of use
Both FixGDPR and Cookiebot offer WordPress plugins that simplify installation. With Cookiebot, you install the plugin, enter your Cookiebot ID (obtained from their dashboard), and the consent banner appears on your site. Configuration options include banner layout, colors, text, and consent categories. The Cookiebot dashboard provides a management interface for viewing scan results and adjusting settings.
FixGDPR follows a similar pattern: install the plugin, paste your Site ID, and enable the banner. The key difference is what happens next. Beyond the consent banner, FixGDPR runs a full compliance scan from within your WordPress admin panel. You get a 0–100 compliance score, a list of issues organized by severity, and step-by-step instructions for fixing each one. Cookiebot tells you what cookies your site sets; FixGDPR tells you what is wrong with your GDPR posture and how to fix it.
For site owners who just want a consent banner and nothing else, either tool will get the job done quickly. For those who want a more comprehensive view of their compliance posture — including issues beyond cookies, such as missing privacy policy fields, insecure form handling, or third-party data transfers — FixGDPR provides that out of the box without requiring additional tools.
Compliance approach
Cookiebot is, at its core, a consent management platform. It focuses on cookies: scanning for them, categorizing them, blocking them before consent, and recording consent. It does this well and has a deep, well-maintained cookie database. For organizations whose primary concern is cookie consent compliance, Cookiebot is a solid choice.
FixGDPR takes a broader view of GDPR compliance. While it includes a consent banner and cookie auto-blocking, it also performs comprehensive compliance audits that check for dozens of GDPR requirements beyond cookies. Does your site have a compliant privacy policy? Are your contact forms transmitting data over HTTPS? Do your third-party integrations have adequate data processing agreements? Are you disclosing international data transfers? FixGDPR checks for all of this and assigns you a numerical compliance score that you can track over time.
This difference in approach reflects a difference in philosophy. Cookiebot assumes that if you get consent right, the rest of your compliance program will follow. FixGDPR assumes that consent is just one piece of a larger puzzle, and that most small businesses need guidance on all the other pieces too. Neither approach is wrong — they simply serve different needs. If you have a dedicated privacy team that handles everything beyond consent, Cookiebot may be all you need. If you are a small business owner who wears multiple hats and needs one tool to cover as much compliance ground as possible, FixGDPR is designed for you.
Making the right choice
Which platform is right for you?
Both tools are legitimate compliance solutions. The right choice depends on your specific situation, budget, and how much of your compliance program you want to centralize in one platform.
When to choose Cookiebot
Cookiebot remains a strong option for certain use cases, particularly at the enterprise level. If any of the following describe your situation, Cookiebot may be the better fit.
- • You are a large enterprise with a dedicated privacy or legal team that handles compliance end to end, and you need a focused consent management tool that integrates into a broader compliance stack.
- • You need consent banners in 40 or more languages and your audience spans dozens of countries with diverse language requirements.
- • You are already using Cookiebot across your organization, your team is trained on it, and the switching cost outweighs the potential savings.
- • You value a long track record and established brand recognition. Cookiebot has been a Google-certified CMP since the early days of the program and has extensive documentation and community support.
- • You need advanced IAB TCF v2.2 integration for programmatic advertising compliance across a large ad-tech stack.
Cookiebot has earned its reputation over more than a decade of operation. For organizations with the budget and the internal expertise to complement its consent-focused feature set, it continues to be a reliable platform.
When to choose FixGDPR
FixGDPR is purpose-built for small-to-mid-sized businesses, freelancers, and agencies who want compliance tooling that goes beyond just a consent banner. Choose FixGDPR if any of the following apply.

- • You manage multiple websites and want a single, predictable monthly bill rather than paying per domain per subpage count.
- • You need a privacy policy generator that creates a policy based on the actual cookies and trackers found on your site.
- • You want a 0–100 compliance score that you can track over time, share with clients, or reference in board reports.
- • You are looking for a Cookiebot alternative after the August 2025 price increase and want stable, transparent pricing.
- • You run a WordPress site and want to manage compliance scanning, consent, and reporting all from your wp-admin dashboard.
